The sustainable body wash consists of the same basic ingredients as soapy water, betaine and sodium lauryl sulfate or SLS.

However, the main difference between the two products is their surfactants-compounds known to reduce the surface tension between substances, which help emulsify and remove oily dirt.

The surfactant of sustainable body wash does not come from saponification, but by reacting certain oils or fats with lye.
