CONTACT ON WHATSAAP: +256797299330 Bamileke Juju Hat at Wholesale Prices From creative mood boarding to actual interior decorating, juju hats undoubtedly inspire, enhance, and add interest to every home. But there’s more to these festive, feathery hats that has become an irresistible interior piece. Actually, its history is just as – if not more – interesting as its aesthetic quality. To better understand its importance, we’ll take you on a quick journey to the world of juju hats, and why they are incredibly sought-after by interior designers and simple interior enthusiasts alike. Bamileke Heritage The history of juju hats or tyn hats is deeply tied with the Bamileke people of Western Cameroon in Central Africa. A full appreciation of juju hats cannot be done without first delving into the Bamileke people and their culture. After all, they were the ones who pioneered juju hats’ creation. The word “bamileke” comes from the phrase “mba lekeo”, which means “those below”. The term was used by one of the first explorers of the Cameroon Grasslands. The Bamileke people originally came from the upper part of Mbam-et-Inoubou. Many have remained in the area despite the invasion of the Fulani army in the 1800’s, but some were forced to travel southwards during the war. The migrants were able to find villages in Bamum and have established a strong community within the region. Central to every Bamileke community is the Fon. The Fon is the king or the sacred male sovereign. The Bamileke culture is built around traditions which the Fon oversees – from performances to religious rituals. Juju hats are made specifically for individual performances in honor of the Fon. These hats that are considered vestiges of the rich culture are also used in other ceremonies that mark one’s birth, death, or marriage. Juju Hats’ Magical Power Juju pertains to a particular object that possesses magical powers. It stems from the French word “joujou” which means a toy or a plaything. Juju hats bring prosperity, safety, luck, and protection. It is operated on the principle of transference, which means that anyone who comes in contact with it will be blessed with its energy. This is one of the reasons why a lot of people choose to put one or two inside their home. A juju hat is indeed a decorative piece with powerful benefits! How Juju Hats are made Juju hats vary enormously in quality and value. The authentic ones are exclusively and painstakingly handcrafted in Cameroon. Juju hats of the highest quality will take more than three days to make. The core of every juju hat is the highly durable raffia. The raffia is carefully woven to create the base for juju hats. Feathers from various birds are fanned out in a circular design and securely attached to the woven base. A string that is wrapped around the entire hat opens it up to a circular wonder when pulled. Juju hats are available in a wide range of feathers that are dyed using organic pigments or left in their original state. Juju hats are not merely an interior design trend. These are cultural marvels that adds glamour and character into every home. The white juju hat, which can be used as a spectacular eye-catching wall decor, has, over the years, become one of the most « must have » decor object. The headdresses are made of natural or dyed chicken feathers as well as various wild bird feathers. Traditionally the Juju hat, Bamiléké feather headdress or Tyn hat, is a headdress worn by the royal dancers of the Bamiléké tribes during important ceremonies held by the tribal chief. They symbolize prosperity and are believed to posses the positive qualities of birds and the beauty as well as fragility of life. We are descendants of the first juju hats family and all our Juju hats are handmade in a traditional manner.Despite our extreme inherited talents, specialization and longevity in making juju hats,no two juju hats can be the same. It is these differences that we at juju house cherish most. Each headdress is truly unique. For any more information, Connect to us on Email or Whatsaap : +256797299330
