It was the early 1910s when Nicola Colavolpe started the transformation of dried figs according to ancient recipes of the farmers who in winter and in times of famine they used dried figs instead of bread. In order to give a unique taste to his figs, Nicola Colavolpe invented a recipe with the natural spices and aromas that are found in this area of South Italy and created the flavouring syrup that gives flavour and preserves the figs soft and tasty for a long time. That natural syrup is still now the secret of the Colavolpe family.
